BMDSys initiated a cooperative development project together with the University of Jena for the next three years to finalize the development of an industrially reproducible and clinically applicable magnetic sensor for its Apollo MFI systems. “We expect the new generation, the Apollo CXL, L for laser, to be available in 2015.” said Dr. Erné, Director and CTO of BMDSys. The project is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The new sensor is based on an optical pumped laser magnetometer called RTOM (Room Temperature Optical Magnetometer). The advantage of the new sensor, that first will be implemented into the new Apollo CXL system in 2015, is that it does not need liquid helium cooling. This will significantly reduce the running cost of the system and add further utilization time. Customers of the present Apollo CXS will have the opportunity to upgrade to the new generation as soon as the Apollo CXL will be available. “It is very important for us to protect the investment that our pioneer customers made. Therefore, they will receive preferred treatment for an upgrade.” says Mr. Kruemmel, President and CEO of BMDSys.
